SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team became victorious in a non-conference matchup over the USCAA Div. 1 Knights from Berkeley College (NY) at the HUB Athletics Building on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Seawolves' freshman Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) converted a perfect 100 percent from the field in the first quarter, scoring 13 points and to help the home team to a 19-17 lead. The Knights would regain a lead to open the second quarter before SMCC found a way to take a 35-31 advantage into the break.

First-year Abby Roy (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) made two free throws and Mullen a layup to give the Seawolves a 70-65 lead with 1:14 remaining in the game. The SMCC defense fended off a late run by the Knights to hang on to win and break a two-game skid.

Mullen finished with 21 points and five rebounds and rookie guard Milo Seams (South Paris, Maine) would add 13 points, shooting 60 percent from the field. Captain Halle Tripp (Searsmont, Maine) and freshman Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) each contributed eight points— Trueman with a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Knights' Khya Hough recorded a 27-point, 13-rebound double-double in 40 minutes of play. Desiraye Sealy scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.

SMCC improved to 4-5 on the season, remaining 2-2 in conference play.

The Seawolves will get back to league action when they host rival Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Tip-off at the HUB Athletics Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white in support of SMCC!
