Knights Hold Off Seawolves in Midweek Matchup

SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball faced a tough opponent, Northern Essex Community College, on Wednesday afternoon, falling 15-4 in a non-conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Northern Essex jumped out to a fast start, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. SMCC responded immediately with four runs of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by an RBI single from Tyler Herkalo (Lewiston, Maine) and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine).

Despite the early rally, the Seawolves were held in check the rest of the way while the Knights steadily extended their lead. The Knights scored in five of the eight innings, taking advantage of 14 walks and nine stolen bases.

Leudys Castillo (Lawrence, Massachusetts) got the start on the mound for SMCC and was followed in relief by Aaron Whitman (Bridgton, Maine) and Boulette.
