SMCC Falls to Central Maine

AUBURN, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team faced a tough challenge on the road Wednesday night, falling 108-42 to nationally ranked Central Maine Community College in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup.

SUMMARY

SMCC struggled to find its rhythm offensively against Central Maine's defense, shooting 24.2% from the field and 11.8% from three-point range. Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) led the Seawolves with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) added six points and four rebounds.

Turnovers proved costly, as SMCC committed 32, leading to 43 points off turnovers for the Mustangs. Skyler Tinker (Lubec, Maine) provided energy off the bench with six points and three rebounds, while Milo Seams(South Paris, Maine) and Halle Tripp (Searsmont, Maine) each added in four points apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SMCC started strong, keeping pace with their opponents led by baskets from Trueman, but Central Maine quickly went on an offensive run, taking control with a 24-8 first quarter lead and not looking back.

Central Maine shot 50.5% from the field, including 33.3% from three, while their aggressive defense forced SMCC into difficult shot attempts.

The Seawolves showed fight in the second half, improving their shooting percentage in the third and fourth quarters however the Seawolves were still unable to answer the Mustangs offense.

SMCC (12-11, 8-6 YSCC) look to bounce back in their next contest against Vermont State University Randolph on Saturday Feb 15th at The HUB Athletic Center (Senior Day). Tipoff is scheduled for 12PM.
