SMCC Earns Clear-Cut Victory Against NHTI

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Women's Basketball cruised to a decisive 95-56 victory over NHTI in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup on Thursday night at The HUB Athletics Center.

SUMMARY

The Seawolves capitalized on both ends of the court, shooting 54.8% from the field while maintaining a 43-25 rebounding advantage over the Lynx. SMCC also took advantage of turnovers, converting 25 points off 20 NHTI turnovers.  

Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) paced the Seawolves with 25 points, including five three-pointers, while adding eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Halle Tripp (Searsmont, Maine) contributed 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers of her own, while Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) added 14 points and seven rebounds in an efficient outing, connecting on 7-of-9 shots from the field.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Seawolves exploded out of the gate with a 26-6 first quarter, setting the tone for the game. Mullen and Tripp combined for five three-pointers in the opening frame, while the Seawolves' defense held NHTI to 10% shooting in the quarter.  

NHTI began to find its rhythm in the second and third quarters, but SMCC continued to control the tempo and extend its lead. Trueman and Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) commanded the paint, combining for 29 points and eight rebounds.  

In the fourth quarter, SMCC finished with a 27-point outburst, highlighted by contributions from the bench. Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) and Caitlin Burke (New Sharon, Maine) kept the tempo high, combining for seven points in the final minutes to cap the team's highest-scoring performance of the season.

The Seawolves (7-7, 5-3 YSCC) look to build on their performance when they visit Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Saturday, January 18, at Albert M. White Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
