Seawolves Surge Past Northern Essex, 77-43

HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS– The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team controlled the game from start to finish, securing a 77-43 victory over Northern Essex Community College on Tuesday night.

SUMMARY  

SMCC showcased a balanced attack, shooting 39.7% from the field while forcing 29 turnovers from Northern Essex. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) led the scoring effort with 15 points, seven deflections, and five steals, while Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Alyssa Howard (New Gloucester, Maine) added 12 points of her own, contributing to a well-rounded offensive performance.  

The Seawolves' defense was relentless, recording 13 steals and racking up 31 points off turnovers alongside 13 second chance points and shooting 70% from the free throw line throughout the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED  

SMCC jumped out to a fast start, outscoring Northern Essex 36-16 at the end of the first half. The Seawolves continued their offensive push into the third quarter tallying an additional 24 points. 

NECC made a fourth quarter push, outscoring the Seawolves 19-17. Despite the last ditch effort by NECC the Seawolves held strong and cemented their victory with a final score of 77-43.

LOOKING AHEAD  

SMCC (12-9, 8-4 YSCC) will look to keep their momentum going in their next matchup at CMCC on Wednesday February 12th. Tipoff is scheduled for 6PM.
