
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team claimed a decisive 107-36 win over Washington County Community College on Saturday afternoon.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves set the tone early, shooting 53.5% from the field and controlling the game on both ends. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) led the offensive charge with 23 points on 9-15 shooting, adding eight assists and five steals. Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) provided a major spark off the bench, contributing 20 points on an efficient 10-14 from the floor.
Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) and Caitlin Burke (Westbrook, Maine) both recorded double-doubles, with Trueman tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Burke added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Halle Tripp (Saco, Maine) also contributed 13 points and five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC wasted no time, jumping out to a 24-6 lead in the first quarter backed by their defensive pressure, forcing six turnovers.
The second quarter saw SMCC extend its lead even further, adding in 31 points while limiting Washington County CC to nine. Mullen and Renna took control offensively, finding open looks and finishing in transition as SMCC entered halftime with a commanding 55-15 advantage.
The Seawolves didn't slow down in the second half, adding 30 points in the third quarter and maintaining their defensive intensity.
SMCC ultimately closed out the game scoring 22 points in the final quarter.
