
CONCORD, N.H. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team delivered a strong team performance on the road, defeating NHTI 100-36 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup on Wednesday night.
SUMMARY
SMCC controlled the game from the start shooting 45.2% from the field. Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) led all scorers with 28 points, knocking down five three-pointers while collecting six steals and five rebounds. Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) added 18 points off the bench, shooting an efficient 7-10 from the floor and 3-4 from beyond the arc.
Two Seawolves recorded double-doubles, as Hannah Thorsen (Kittery, Maine) controlled the paint with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) added 16 points and 13 rebounds to round out a strong performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC started fast, jumping out to a 25-6 lead in the first quarter, fueled by a 12-0 run that included baskets from Mullen and Thorsen. The Seawolves moved the ball well and found success inside, creating high percentage looks while limiting NHTI's offensive opportunities.
The Seawolves extended their lead in the second quarter, maintaining their defensive intensity and continuing to find scoring opportunities in transition. Trueman and Thorsen controlled the glass, creating second-chance opportunities.
SMCC kept their foot on the gas in the second half, adding 23 points in the third quarter while staying disciplined on both ends of the floor to close out the game.
