AUBURN, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team played to a 1-1 split in a doubleheader at Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Game 1: SMCC 8, CMCC 2
In the first game, SMCC secured a solid win with a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting. Max Noto (Wentzville, Mo.) and Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) dominated on the mound, combining for seven strong innings and allowing only one earned run while striking out seven batters.
The offense came alive in the third inning, with two runs adding another in the fifth. The Seawolves tacked on insurance runs in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 8-2. Junior Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Mass.) paced the offense going 3-3 with a home run and a walk; Brady Pert (Penobscot, Maine) and Thomas Marcotte (Acushnet, Mass.) added two hits apiece.
Game 2: CMCC 7, SMCC 0
In the second game, CMCC shut out the Seawolves in seven innings. SMCC had trouble getting things going with only five hits. Sophomore Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) reached base three times with a single and two walks; Marcotte added two hits. However, SMCC faltered in the early innings, with CMCC rallying for four runs in the second to take the lead, adding two more in the 3rd.
The Seawolves will look to bounce back in their double header against Quincy College at home on Saturday, September 14th.
