SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball wrapped up a three-game regular season sweep of Great Bay Community College with a 21-2 win at Graves Athletic Field on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves exploded for nine runs in the second inning and never looked back. After being held scoreless in the first, SMCC strung together six hits and took advantage of Great Bay defensive miss queues and wild pitches to take early control. Key hits included a two-run single from Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Maryland) and a three-run triple by Alex Bean (Westbrook, Maine).

SMCC kept the offense rolling with four runs in the third, highlighted by RBI doubles from Bean and Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Massachusetts), and three more in the fourth, capped off by Aaron Whitman (Bennington, Vermont)'s two-run double to left. In total, SMCC pounded out 21 hits, including seven extra-base hits.

Leudys Castillo (Estero, Florida) was dominant on the mound, striking out nine batters over five shutout innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit and didn't walk a batter.

The bullpen combined to close it out with two final innings, and the defense committed no errors in support of the staff.
