Seawolves suffer home defeat to CMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered a 105-70 defeat to the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in the first of two Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) meetings on Thursday, Dec. 12.

The USCAA #1-ranked Mustangs held a 36-16 lead after 10 minutes, and went into the break with a 33-point advantage. The Seawolves improved their production in the third quarter registering 21 points and outscored the opposition 23-14 in the fourth. Despite SMCC's effectiveness in the second half, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit surrendered in the first.

First-year Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) recorded her fifth 20-point game, going for 28 on 9-19 shooting. Sophomore captain Halle Tripp (Searsmont, Maine) added 13 points and first-year guard Milo Seams (South Paris, Maine) came away with seven rebounds.

CMCC's Ella Lavigne posted a career night with 48 points on 20-29 from the floor. Three others landed in double figures to include Ava Smith's 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The result moves SMCC to 4-6 on the season, 2-3 in conference action. CMCC remains undefeated at 12-0, 5-0 YSCC.

The Seawolves round of the semester when they travel to Vermont State University- Randolph (YSCC) on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
