WARWICK, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team split with the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in a non-conference twin bill on Tuesday, Apr. 23.

Game 1: W, 3-1

The game stood scoreless for the first four innings until first-years Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) and Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) each singled in runs to give SMCC a 2-0 advantage. Rookie Kira Siteman (Portland, Maine) added to the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI double.

First-year ace Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) held the Knights off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when Brianna Grenier tripled in Zoe Battersby. That would be Wilkins' only blemish mowing down nine CCRI batters over a complete game performance.

Game 2: L, 9-1

This time it was the Knights who managed to jump ahead first, scoring in each frame and collecting 12 total hits. CCRI starter Janina Mazzulla silenced the Seawolves' bats to just one hit, courtesy of co-captain Shylah Woodford (Readfield, Maine).

First-year Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) took the loss for the Seawolves providing four innings of work.

The split moves SMCC to 14-8 on the year.

The Lady Seawolves return home to host the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in another Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 25. First pitch in South Portland is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
