Bobcats Earn Program First with Win Over USCAA Division I Opponent
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's basketball team made history Tuesday night, securing their first-ever victory against a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I school with a commanding 68-54 win over Bryant & Stratton Albany. The Bobcats displayed a complete team effort, emphasizing both offensive and defensive intensity to claim the milestone win.
Leading the way was Holly Bagley (Bloomfield, NY), the reigning Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Week, who delivered another standout performance. Bagley stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals, setting the tone for the Bobcats' balanced attack.
On the defensive end, Jillian York (Largo, FL) was relentless, taking three charges and grabbing five rebounds, showcasing her grit and determination to anchor the team's defense. Offensively, Jordan Louis (Crystal, NM) and Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) contributed key scoring efforts, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Louis demonstrated her playmaking ability with a game-high six assists, along with five rebounds and two steals. Jacobson was dominant on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds to complement her scoring.
Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) continued her stellar season with another double-double, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds, further solidifying her role as a reliable presence in the paint. This historic win against Bryant & Stratton Albany marks an important milestone for the Bobcats as they continue their season with momentum and confidence.
The team sits at 4-3 on the young season and are currently ranked ninth in the nation in USCAA Women's Basketball Division II. Up next, the Bobcats hit the road this weekend for two crucial YSCC conference matchups:
