
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 78-36 to open Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) scheduling on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The Seawolves paced the Panthers with three consecutive 20-point quarters, limiting the opposition to 10 points or fewer. SMCC forced Albany into 29 turnovers and generated 36 more field goal attempts. The Seawolves out-rebounded their opponent by 18, and connected at a near 40 percent clip from three-point territory.
First-year Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) led all scorers in the game with 22 and continued to impress from beyond the arc knocking down 5-12. Rookie Jade Trueman (Sanbornville, N.H.) collected 13 points and seven rebounds; captain Halle Tripp (Searsmont, Maine) and Taylor Renna (Pembroke, N.H.) combined for 21 points.
Albany's Adriana Yuret led her team with 12 points on 6-12 shooting.
SMCC moves to 2-2 overall; the Panthers open their season at 0-1.
The Seawolves continue conference action when they travel to the University of Maine at Augusta on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Tip-off with the Moose is set for 8:00 p.m.
