SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team hosted Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) at Wainwright Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Seawolves would strike first in the 19th minute when sophomore Isabella Tanis (Brewer, Maine) connected a shot off a delivery from sophomore Leah Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine). The Seawolves' attack would continue to produce when sophomore Jadyn Eastman (South Berwick, Maine) collected the ball off a rebound and scored, increasing the Seawolves lead 2-0.
In the second half, the Panthers scored their first of the game when Julia Roemer found the back of the net off an assist from Raegan Wendel. ACPHS would use their momentum to tie the game 2-2 courtesy of Ailani Aleman-Rivera in the 81st minute.
In the 87th minute, junior captain Jordyn Hulsey (South Portland, Maine) would get fouled, granting the Seawolves a penalty kick opportunity. Fellow captain Jordyn Condon (Newport, Maine) stepped up in the big moment to land a shot aimed at the bottom right corner of the net, to secure the victory for the Seawolves.
The Seawolves totaled 19 shots, tripling the amount of shots taken by the Panthers. Goalkeepers Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) and Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) combined for four saves.
The victory improved the Seawolves record to 3-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in conference play.
The Seawolves return to action on the road against Word of Life Bible Institute on Saturday, Sept. 28. Kickoff in Pottersville, New York is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
