(Augusta, ME) In a thrilling showdown on Saturday at the Kennebec Savings Bank Field (CASC), the UMA Moose Women's Soccer Team pulled off a stunning victory over the previously undefeated Paul Smith's Bobcats, securing a 2-1 victory. The Moose showcased their grit and determination, earning a well-deserved win that highlighted their growth and competitive spirit.
The match began with both teams displaying aggressive play, but it was the Moose who struck first. In the 52nd minute, Lena Mau found the back of the net with a well-placed shot, assisted by Elizabeth Reeves. This goal gave the Moose a crucial 1-0 lead, igniting their offense and energizing the team.
As the game progressed, the Moose continued to apply pressure, and their efforts paid off in the 78th minute when Gabby Allen scored an unassisted goal, extending the lead to 2-0. Allen's ability to capitalize on the moment showcased her skill and determination, putting the Moose in a commanding position.
However, the Bobcats were not to be counted out. In the 85th minute, Hayleigh Gates managed to score for Paul Smith's College, narrowing the Moose's lead to 2-1. The late goal added tension to the match, as the Bobcats pushed hard for an equalizer in the final minutes.
Despite the late surge from the Bobcats, the Moose's defense held strong. Goalkeeper Vanessa Wharton made key saves throughout the match, finishing with a total of 18 saves, while her team collectively contributed to a solid defensive effort.
