Augusta, ME – The CMCC Women's Basketball team scored first and led start to finish in a 73-59 win against UMaine-Augusta in the team's first Yankee Small College Conference contest of the campaign. Ella Lavigne had a team-high 19 points and Ava Smith posted a double-double in the victory at the Augusta Civic Center.
The Mustangs blasted out of the gates scoring the first seven points. Lavigne and Riley Hebler each had six points in the first ten minutes and the 25 points the team put up was the most in any quarter for the game.
Central Maine managed its eight-point lead for the rest of the half with six different players scoring in the second quarter. By the time the teams headed back to the locker room, the visitors were up 40-31.
The Moose hung tight in the second half thanks in large part to Alisyn Alley. The junior captain from Stearns High School had 10 of her game-high 26 points in the third quarter and played all 40 minutes of the contest. However, the Mustangs pulled away for good in the final ten minutes with Lavigne and Jenny Chaput each scoring nine. CMCC posted its largest lead of the contest, up by 15, with 1:20 remaining.
Lavigne's 19 points were her second highest total of the season, while Smith posted her first career double-double for the freshman from Lake Region High School. Chaput finished with 15 points while Hebler and Zoe Bedford each connected on two three-pointers to total six points apiece.
While the teams were relatively even in most statistical categories, the Mustangs big advantage came on its shooting from the floor going 29-for-65 for a 44.6% mark, making eight more shots than UMA. Central Maine has now won its last 32 YSCC regular season games with its last conference loss coming against the Moose back in 2022.
CMCC next returns to its non-conference portion of the schedule for its next two contests. The Mustangs host a doubleheader weekend starting with Washington County Community College on Saturday, November 9th before playing USCAA D1 opponent UMaine-Fort Kent on Sunday at 1 pm.
