First YSCC Athlete of the Week Awards handed out

(YSCC) -- The 2017 Fall Sports Season is underway and the Yankee Small College Conference has already given awards.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Samuel Gerken, University of Maine at Augusta
(Sophomore, - Yarmouth, Maine)
In Gerken's first collegiate cross country meet he paced 6:26 for the 8K. He raced a very challenging course at Vermont Tech against very tough NCAA Division II & III competition. He finished first in Yankee Small College Conference competition at the meet with an overall time of 32:08

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Rebecca Broadbent, Vermont Tech
(Senior, #1 runner - North Dighton, MA)
Rebecca set a Vermont Tech 5K record and a lifetime personal best 5K in 19:27, finishing 4th place racing against Middlebury and SNHU Saturday. She is a team captain who has done all the workouts given to her for the past four months. Works with the younger runners to build confidence and training. A great example of team player.

GOLF - Evan Kordalski - University of Maine Augusta

Year: Freshman
Hometown: Lewiston, Maine
High School: Lewiston High School
Position: Righty
Major: Liberal Studies

Evan shot an 80 and came in tied for first at the NHTI Invitational.

MEN'S SOCCER - John Paul Eaton of NHTI
(Fr, GK - Rochester, N.H., 0)

John Paul allowed only four goals against the 2016 National Champion UMaine Fort Kent while saving 18 more shots on goal.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - Jessica Haskell, SMCC
(So., M - Saco, Maine, 23)

Haskell tallied four goals and an assist in the SeaWolves' 10-0 victory over the College of St. Joseph on Sept. 9.

BASEBALL - Sean Adams, SMCC
(Jr., P/IF - Lebanon, Maine, 9)

Adams collected six RBI in SMCC's doubleheader sweep of Great Bay CC on Sept, 8. Adams hit two home runs in the second game, his first in his third collegiate at-bat. In the first game, Adams pitched in relief and earned the win, striking out four in two innings of work.

VOLLEYBALL - Hennessy Aquino, NHTI
(Fr, OH - Manchester, N.H., 06)

Hennessey had 16 aces, 29 kills and five blocks in her first three matches.
