YSCC teams to compete for USCAA DII basketball championships

(YSCC) – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced their seedings for the 2021-22 DII National Basketball Championships, and the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) is well represented. 

The Central Maine CC Mustangs grab the #2 seed in the women's tournament. The Mustangs currently rank #1 in scoring and rebounds in USCAA DII women's basketball. The Mustangs are led by YSCC All-Conference selections Emily Strachan, Eliza Brault and Safena Te Nana-Williams. The Mustangs face the Southern Maine CC Seawolves Saturday in the YSCC Elite 8 Championship.

The Seawolves grab the #6 seed in the USCAA tournament. SMCC has the #2 scoring offense in the USCAA and has allowed the second-fewest points per game. YSCC All-Conference selections Hannah Richards, Tara Flanders and Kyla Greenleaf, lead the Seawolves.

The final YSCC team selected in the DII woman's tournament is the University of Maine Augusta Moose, grabbing the #7 seed. YSCC Player of the Year Madeline Suhr and YSCC Coach of the Year Heath Cowen finished their YSCC season with a loss to the Seawolves in the semifinal round. 

The Mustangs will get a first-round bye as the #2 seed. In their first-round matchup, the #6 Seawolves will face the #3 University of Cincinnati Clermont Cougars. The #7 Moose will face #10 Penn State University Fayette Nittany Lions in their first-round game. 

The USCAA women's bracket tips off Monday, March 7. 

The YSCC is represented in the men's tournament as well. The NHTI Lynx are reigning USCAA DII National Champions.  

The SMCC Seawolves grab the #5 seed in the men's DII tournament. The Seawolves lead the nation in assists and rebounds. The Seawolves are led by YSCC Player of the Year Cam Cousins as well as YSCC All-Conference selections Ian Regan, Zach Mickle and YSCC Coach of the Year Matt Richards. The Seawolves will face defending USCAA DII National Champion NHTI in the YSCC Championship Saturday Feb 26. 

Speaking of the Lynx, they grab the #6 seed in the USCAA DII men's bracket. The Lynx lead the USCAA DII in scoring with 86 PPG. The Lynx are led by YSCC All-Conference selection Saeer Miller. 

NHTI will face #3 Penn State York Nittany Lions. The Seawolves will face # 4 University of Miami Hamilton Harriers. The men's bracket tips off Monday, March 7.
