YSCC teams compete for USCAA DII National Basketball Championships

(YSCC) – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association DII National Basketball Championships kicked off Monday, and a Yankee Small College Conference team got their first win.

The #7 seed University of Maine Augusta women won in overtime against #10 Penn State Fayette, 54-48. Hope Butler and Kaeti Butterfield had 15 points each for the Moose. The Moose advance to play conference foe, Central Maine Community College Mustangs, in the second round on Tuesday at 8pm. The Moose have beaten the Mustangs twice this season. The Mustangs finished second in the 2019-20 USCAA DII tournament losing to Penn State Beaver 79-61.

YSCC men's teams start their tournament play Tuesday as well.

YSCC men's champions #5 seed Southern Maine CC Seawolves tip-off against Miami University Hamilton at 2PM. The #6 seeded NHTI Lynx will play at noon, facing the #3 seed Penn State York. 

The women of SMCC, ranked #6, will close out YSCC action Tuesday night at 10PM, facing #3 ranked University of Cincinnati Clermont.
