AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College in a 9-inning affair on Monday, Sept. 27.

First-year Jack Falvo (East Hartford, Conn.) got the nod from Coach Lops hurling four innings of 2-run baseball. Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) and Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) made relief appearances to finish the game—Sayers was taxed the loss. CMCC's Caleb Valliere went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits across nine innings of work.

The SMCC offense got things going in the first frame on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sayers to score Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico); the Mustangs took the lead pushing two across in the third. SMCC regained the advantage in the eighth on a double by Sam Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) and a single by Andrew Martin (Dracut, Mass.) before CMCC scored two in the bottom half of the inning to put in place the final lead change.

Colon finished with the only multi-hit game for the away squad.

The SeaWolves sport a 5-3 record overall; the Mustangs improve to 10-4 on the season.

The SeaWolves return to the diamond on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Bridgton Academy. First pitch in Bridgton, Maine is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
