HAVERHILL, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season in a 3-1 result over the Knights from Northern Essex Community College (NECC) on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The Knights scored first in the 29th minute courtesy of Danny Mayombwe; SMCC's Caleb Arsenault (Freeport, Maine) got even with a breakaway goal before the half.

Sophomore Keto Tchiputo (Portland, Maine) broke the stalemate at 51:30 with his first cap of the year before first-year Elias Antonio (Portland, Maine) provided separation off a set piece goal to extend the SMCC lead to 3-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joshua Nagle (Biddeford, Maine) recorded six saves to secure the win.

Head Coach Brian Dougher stated, "I was impressed with how well we bounced back from the Fort Kent match. NECC challenged us all over the field but we were able to respond as a team and put together the pieces to begin a successful campaign."

The SeaWolves improve to 1-1-0 on the season; NECC opens its season 0-1-0.

Next for the SeaWolves in a home date with the Community College of Rhode Island in a non-conference bout on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff at Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. LIVE STATS.
