Auburn, ME - Jimmy Reed continued his hot streak by racking up six hits on the day including a homerun, triple and six RBI's as the Mustangs went on to sweep UMass-Boston 15-0 and 11-6 in Auburn on Saturday afternoon in NECBL action.
In game one, Reed led off the game with a solo homerun to right field. He ended up going 4-4 with four RBI's in the game. Along with Reed, Corey Armstrong, Cody Allen and Reid Cote all had multiple hits and RBI's for the Mustangs. Wyatt Lufkin picked up the win on the mound giving up three hits and struck out four. Reed came on and pitched the final inning.
In game two, the Mustangs had to come back from a 5-1 deficit in the fourth inning to finish off the Beacons. Reid Cote led off the fourth with a double. After two walks, Reed cleared the bases with a triple tying the game at 5. In the bottom of the 5th, after an Armstrong triple, Cote had his second double of the game plating Armstrong giving the Mustangs the lead for good. Reed and Cote each had multiple hits in the game. Will Bean, Cole Brown and Max Dobkowski shared the pitching duties. Brown picked up the win in relief. The Mustangs improve to 7-1 in the NECBA and 13-4 overall. They take on the Seawolves of SM on Tuesday in Portland.
"Jimmy Reed might be the most complete baseball player I've ever coached in 17 years." said Mustangs coach Ryan Palmer. "He is seeing the ball well, finding gaps, hitting for power, stealing bases and playing a stellar centerfield. This team is fun to watch. It seems to be someone different stepping up each game."
