BRIDGTON, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team was narrowly defeated by the Wolverines of Bridgton Academy 4-2 in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 12.

The SeaWolves were first on the board in the second inning courtesy of a RBI-single by first-year Mitchell Quigg (Braintree, Mass.) followed by a sacrifice fly by Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico). The Wolverines cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning before knotting the game at 4-4 in the fourth.

Bridgton broke the stalemate in the sixth inning with an infield single that scored two.

First-year Tyler Apodaca (Kittery Point, Maine) took the rubber for the SeaWolves and provided four complete innings—allowing two runs over six hits. Rookie right-hander Ronin Tachibana (Kennebunk, Maine) came on for a scoreless inning of relief followed by first-year Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) who was taxed the loss. Bridgton's AJ Rourke earned the win.

Quigg and first-year Derek Hoh (Methuen, Mass.) collected multi-hit games for SMCC.

The result pushes SMCC to 15-8 on the year. The SeaWolves will battle Bridgton again on April 26, this time in South Portland.

The SeaWolves return home to open conference play with the Lynx from NHTI in a single 9-inning affair on Friday, April 15. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
