Randolph Center, VT - The men's soccer team earned their first win of the season against conference opponent Hampshire College during their homecoming game.
The Knigths started out strong, Peppering the Hampshire keeper with shots and keeping offensive pressure up for most of the game. The Knights finally broke through with the first of 5 goals in the 28th minute by freshman Paul Banta, who scored off an assist by goalkeeper Thomas Ferguson's punt. Banta followed this up with another unassisted goal in the 34th minute. The Knights started the second half with a comfortable 2-0 lead, then continued to hammer the goal with multiple shots until freshman Rupesh Gurung found the back of the net. The Knights finished of the scoring with Freshmen Sawyer Hood and Ryan Nadeau scoring less than 5 minutes apart. Hampshire goalkeeper Sebastian Dresbach kept the score in check with 21 saves on 26 shots on goal, while the Knights keeper Ferguson had a light day, making 3 saves on 3 shots on goal.
The Knights continuted conference play on Sunday against Central Maine Community College. The Knights had trouble keeping up the offensive pressure from Saturday due to strong defensive play by Central Maine, who did not allow the Knights to get off any shots on goal. Goaltender Thomas Ferguson once again showed his skill, saving 11 out of 15 shots on goal. The Knights moved to 1-3 in the conference, hopeing to improve their standing with their two final conference games of the season in early October.
