AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team routed the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in both games of a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, Apr. 17.

Game 1: W, 11-1

The Seawolves didn't waste any time, scoring two runs in the first inning highlighted by a triple from first-year captain Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) that brought in first-year Veronica Mercier (Bangor, Maine). They built a comfortable lead throughout as Kassidy Barrett (Windsor, Maine), Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada), and Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) all delivered timely hits.

Wilkins dominated in the circle allowing only one run on four hits while striking out six batters. On the other side, the Mustangs' Olivia Scott and Brooke Gero combined to give up 16 hits.

Game 2: W, 11-3

The Seawolves picked up where they left off when Mercier scored again in the first inning. The Mustangs responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but SMCC quickly regained the lead in the second and never looked back.

First-year co-captain Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) had a standout performance hitting a home run and driving in four runs. Barrett and Perry also collected RBIs.

On the pitching side, SMCC starter Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) went 2.1 innings allowing three runs. Wilkins came in relief and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out seven batters.

The sweep moves SMCC to 12-2 overall, 4-0 in league action.

The Lady Seawolves travel to NCAA Div. 3 Thomas College on Thursday, April 18. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Waterville, Maine.
