Danvers, MA - The Mustangs had to win two games today to get to the championship game, and they did just that.
Game one against Holy Cross needed extra innings to be decided. Reid Cote hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hunter Warren in the bottom of the 8th to give the Mustangs the win over Holy Cross 3-2 in the North Division semifinal. Warren led off the 8th with a single. He then stole second and advanced to third on a Pete McCluskey sacrifice bunt. Cote then hit the sacrifice fly. Warren was also the winning pitcher after relieving Caleb Valliere in the 6th. Corey Armstrong had a double and Rolando Rodriguez, Cody Allen, Jimmy Reed and Cam Armstrong all had singles.
In game two, the Mustangs came from behind to defeat the University of Vermont 3-2. In the 5th inning after Corey Armstrong was intentionally walked to load the bases, Valliere laced a two-run single to right center to give the Mustangs the lead for good. Cam Armstrong was masterful on the mound throwing a complete game two hitter and striking out six. Valliere was the lone repeat hitter for the Mustangs. Rodriguez, Cam Armstrong, Allen and Reed all had singles for the victors.
The Mustangs advance to the Championship next weekend against Fairfield University. Time and day have yet to be determined.
"This team just knows how to win. They never get discouraged and are not afraid to come from behind" said CM coach Ryan Palmer. "Today we got timely hitting, stellar pitching and defense. Our goal this fall was to determine when our season was over. We did just that"
