Mustangs Advance to Final Four

Auburn, ME – Corey David and DeMarco McKissic combined for 44 points tonight as the Mustangs captured the win in the four/five matchup in the Yankee Conference quarterfinals beating Vermont Technical College 73-69.

In a rollicking house—with the Mustang faithful loud and proud, the Mustangs came out the chute on an 8-0 run and build up a 14-3 advantage.  The Knights got settled and not only caught up-- but took and held a small lead the remainder of the first half, off to the dressing room with a 38-32 lead.

The second half was more of the same.  VTC held a small lead going down the stretch.   However, three consecutive Corey David threes kept the Mustangs close and within striking distance.  Fast forward to the six-minute mark and a Henderson to David back door put the Mustangs on top by one.  A few back and forth hoops keep the game close.  Marshall Evans, who played his best game as a Mustang, scored on a driving layup to put the home team up by three and then hit a key free throw to seal the win.

The Mustangs received great efforts from Justin Dugan (7 points, 7 rebounds) Jaeden Henderson (7 points, 4 assists) and a strong game from Malik Farley (10 points, 5 steals.)

Along with David's 25 points, he was credited with 2 rebounds.  However, his major contribution was directing the Mustang attack and keeping the squad grounded.  Big DeMarco McKissic hit for 19 points, and hauled down 14 rebounds.

For the Knights, Dontavious Elder hit for 20 points and Marquise Moore added 16 points.

The win propels the Mustangs into the Yankee Conference final four.  Up next is the number one seed, Southern Maine Community College.  CM travels to enemy territory Tuesday night for a rematch.  SMCC has defeated CM twice this year.
