Randolph Center, VT - The Vermont Tech women's soccer team has had a tough streak of losses in the past 2 weeks. The Knights played 2 conference games and one non-confeerence against very strong teams from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Southern Maine Community College and North Country Community College.
An invigorated team played Sunday against conference opponent Central Maine Community College. Despite the 4-2 loss, the Knights found their offense again, getting off 6 of 10 shots on goal. The Knights took the lead 2-1 off of goals early in the second half by Freshman Evan Gillette early in the first hald and Juinor Cassandra Pelkey in the 62nd minute. The Knights tried to hold on to their lead, but Central Maine had the upper hand on shots in the second half 16-6, keeping the pressure on the Knights. The Mustangs' Samantha Belardo broke throughthe defense to score and tie the game in the 80th minute, and followed that goal up on a defensive breakdown one minute later to give the Mustangs a 3-2lead. The Knights tried to score again, but couldn't get another shot off. The Mustangs sealed the game with a last second goal on a goalie error with 1 second on the clock to wrap up the 4-2 win.
The Knights play at home next week against Bryant & Stratton Albany.
