SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 8-5 to win the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 9.

First-year righty Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) started on the bump for Coach Lops throwing five complete innings to allow one earned run over six hits and two walks. First-years Jack Falvo (East Hartford, Conn.) and Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) each added an inning of relief.

The Mustangs scratched one across in the first by way of a single before SMCC posted five in the bottom half of the first and another in the second courtesy of a sacrifice fly by first-year Andrew Martin (Dracut, Mass.).

CMCC rallied for four runs over the next four innings to cut the deficit to 5-7. Martin put another ball in play in the sixth to add an insurance run and Sayers came on in the seventh to shut the door and log the save.

First-year Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) walked three times, scored three runs, and stole home; first-year Gabriel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) recorded a multi-RBI game.

The SeaWolves conclude the fall season at 8-3 overall.
