SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team took down the Warriors from Massasoit Community College in a non-conference contest 10-8 on Sunday, Apr. 28.

Head Coach Nic Lops celebrated five players with a pre-game ceremony who would be playing their final home game in a Seawolves uniform—Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine), Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine), Liam Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine), Andrew Nielsen (Merrimack, N.H.) and Gabe Aucoin (Bath, Maine).

Despite seven less hits, the Seawolves played a better brand of defense than the opposition to earn themselves another victory.

SMCC put on a steady stream of runs, scoring in all but the sixth and eighth innings, featuring a 4-run effort in the second. Weathering a 6-spot by Massasoit in the top half of the fourth, SMCC pitching settled down to work in and out of trouble. Starter Knott earned the victory pitching six innings, and first-year Bennett Smith (Falmouth, Maine) secured the save.

First-year Davis Kibler (Augusta, Maine) recorded the only multi-hit game for SMCC.

The Seawolves improve to 26-10 and will travel to Bunker Hill Community College on Monday, Apr. 29 for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
