SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 12-2 in eight innings on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

The game was knotted 1-1 through 4.5 innings until first-year Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) unloaded a grand slam to right field to break it open 5-1.

The SeaWolves tacked on four more in the bottom half of the sixth and three more in the eighth to win by the 10-run rule.

First-years Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) and Andrew Martin (Dracut, Mass.) both finished with multi-RBI games.

SMCC starter Kalin Marum (Port Kembla, Australia) tossed 3.2 innings, allowing one run and striking out four to earn his third victory of the season. Coach Lops featured three out of the pen to go the distance.

The SeaWolves take three of four from CMCC and improve to 7-3 on the year. They conclude their season with the Fall Classic at Graves Athletic Field on Saturday, Oct. 9. The home team will play the winner of CMCC and NHTI at 1:30 p.m.
