Mustangs Fall to SMCC 81-73

So. Portland, ME – The better who shoots better, rebounds better, and is more organized--each night is supposed to win.  That is the message Coach Gonyea gave his team postgame after the SeaWolves of Southern Maine beat the Mustangs 81-73 Wednesday night at South Portland.

Coach Richards had his kids ready to play and came out of the gate early taking an early lead.  CM fought back behind the leadership of Corey David to keep the game close, trailing at the half 41-38.  Limited in size and experience (Mustangs have 2 returning players from last year) the boys worked hard and competed for 40 minutes.  Big DeMarco McKissic carried the inside load scoring 11 points on some nice post moves and stymied Sea Wolf inside play most of the game.

SMCC hit for 11 three's and shot 46% from the floor, and 95% from the free throw line.  It is the second game in a row the Mustangs have been stung with hot outside shooting.

David led CM with 19 points and 3 rebounds, 3 assists, in 34 minutes of play.

The loss puts the Mustangs upside down at 10-11----the first time in CM history they have been upside down.  CM is hanging on to the 4th spot entering the Yankee Conference Tournament.
