SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team fell to the Lynx from NHTI 5-4 in extra innings on Friday, April 15.

First-year Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the hill for the SeaWolves in their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opener and threw an effective 6.2 innings— surrendering three runs over seven hits and two walks.

First-year Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) got things going for the offense in the third inning, delivering a RBI-single and eventually coming around to score on a NHTI fielding error. The SeaWolves posted two more in the sixth courtesy of a 2-RBI knock by first-year Derek Hoh (Methuen, Mass.).

The Lynx scratched home two runs in the seventh and evened the game in the top-half of the ninth on a wild pitch. NHTI's Nolan Kilmanis delivered the go-ahead RBI-single in the tenth and Jacob Cogswell finished a complete game effort by retiring the side in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

The result moves SMCC to 16-9 overall, 0-1 to start league play. NHTI improves to 5-10 overall, 3-2 YSCC.

The SeaWolves will continue their season series with the Lynx on Saturday, April 16, this time in Concord, N.H. for a doubleheader. Game times are slated for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
