Women's soccer goes down to NHTI
Concord, NH -
The Vermont Tech Knights took on the Women's Soccer team from NHTI Tuesday down in Concord, NH. The play was fairly even for the first 10 minutes of the game with each team feeling each other out. NHTI's USCAA Player of the week Emily Knouse netted two quick goals during the 11th minute of play. She sneaked past the back line twice and slotted the ball just under keeper Ebony Cota (Lake Region, VT). NHTI followed up 5 minutes later their 3rd goal of the match. After that VTC settled down and was able to possess the ball a little more through the midfield.
VTC was able to move the ball into NHTI's final third to gather a few shots during the last 25 minutes of play. Amy Yandow (Morrisville, VT), Hannah Sheehee (North Clarendon, VT) and Erika Williams (Barre, VT) were able to keep the attack of NHTI at bay with good defense and good communication. Cassandra Pelkey (Castleton, VT) dropped back to help solidify the defense while Brooke Bove (Rutland Town, VT) and Eva Gillette (Randolph Center, VT) tirelessly worked in the midfield to cover the center of the field and release the ball offensively to our strikers. Tay Finnikin (Tampa, FL) Alyssa Downs (Williston, VT) and Jess Paterson (Tunbridge, VT) and Savannah Perry (Rutland, VT) provided good play on the outside wings and general support at striker and center midfield as well. Haley Mattison (Arlington, VT) and Hailey Vesper (Royalton, VT) were our main two strikers for the match. The NHTI defense was very stingy in back not allowing our strikers to drive forward and get near their goal. When Pelkey and Yando moved forward VTC was able to make chances happen but NHTI was very successful at limiting our opportunities. Game ended 5-0 with shots 28-5 in favor of NHTI.
