Mustangs outlast Warriors

Brockton, ME - Despite significant foul trouble throughout the first three quarters, the Mustangs led from start to finish in a 85-70 win over Massasoit CC. As has been the case all year, CM dominated the boards ripping down 33 offensive rebounds, and a program record, 50 defensive rebounds.

A quartet of Mustangs found led the way in the scoring column. Safena Te Nana-Williams (Auckland, NZ), in just 21-minutes, flirted with a triple-double with, 20 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Fellow first-year standout, Kali Thompson (Waterville, ME) came close to tying/breaking the program record for rebounds in a game (21). She hauled in a career-high 19 boards to go with her 14 points, for her second straight double-double. Eliza Brault (Ossipee, NH) also recorded  double-double, her first of the season, with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 steals. Leata Te Nana-Williams (Auckland, NZ) hit three 3-pointers, scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) and Sarah Poli (Benton, ME) both played well off the bench, almost recording a double-double for themselves. Smedberg finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds, while Poli recorded 7 points and 9 rebounds.

The young Mustangs, which include 15 newcomers, are still learning to play together. They combined for 50 points in the 1st and 4th quarters, never surrendering a tie or lead change. They will be back in action on Sunday, when they host the Rams Springfield Technical CC at 2pm. If you cannot make it to Auburn, the game will be streamed by Munzing Media on the CMCC Athletics Facebook page.
