SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team earned revenge against the Wolverines from Bridgton Academy in its 19-1 drubbing on Monday, April 25.

Control issues for the Bridgton starter coupled with three hits by the SeaWolves offense landed nine runs on the scoreboard for the home team in the first. A double by first-year Matthew Tufts (Wells, Maine) scored another in the second inning and a 2-out error by the Wolverines scored first-year Derek Hoh (Methuen, Mass.) in the third.

SMCC piled on eight more runs spanning the fifth and sixth innings to finish the game by way of the 10-run rule in the seventh.

First-year starter Ronin Tachibana (Kennebunk, Maine) hurled four innings of two-hit baseball and struck out six. First-years Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Pa.), Tyler Apodaca (Kittery Point, Maine), and Kalin Marum (Port Kembla, Australia) all provided one inning of relief work.

Both Tufts and first-year Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) finished with four RBIs.

Following the game, Head Coach Nic Lops commented, "We handled our business in all phases of the game. Our pitching suppressed a talented lineup, we made the routine plays in the field, and hit the ball hard at the plate—a nice result ahead of a pivotal series this weekend!"

SMCC improved to 20-11 overall—evening the season series against Bridgton 2-2.

The SeaWolves will return to action on Thursday, April 28 in a make-up 9-inning game with Great Bay Community College. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
