GROTON, Conn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team split in its non-conference doubleheader with the Pointers from UConn-Avery Point on Saturday, April 2.

Game 1: W, 8-7 [BOX]

Avery Point out-hit SMCC 9-5, but in a game that featured five lead changes, the road team finished the job to post three runs in the top-half of the seventh. First-year Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the win in relief of first-year Tyler Apodaca (Kittery Point, Maine). It was first-year Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) who drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right and first-year Ronin Tachibana (Kennebunk, Maine) came on to pitch a scoreless seventh to notch the save.

First-year captain Cameren Cousins (Wells, Maine) recorded SMCC's only multi-hit performance going 2-4 from the dish with a walk, scoring twice. First-years Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) and Gabriel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) combined for four RBI and half of the SeaWolves' run production.

Game 2: L, 6-1 [BOX]

The SeaWolves managed just two hits in the second game- coming off the bats of Colon and first-year Sam Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine). The opposition pitcher Tiernan Powers tossed a complete game to earn the victory; first-year Kalin Marum (Port Kembla, Australia) was taxed the loss.

SMCC stands 13-4 on the season; Avery Point is 8-6-1 overall.

The SeaWolves will round out their weekend road trip with a twin bill at Massasoit Community College (NJCAA) on Sunday, April 3. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
