Seawolves end season for Mustangs

South Portland, ME - The Mustang season came to the end last night as the SMCC handled CM 73-66 in the semi-final game of the Yankee Conference Tournament.

CM jumped out of the gate and took an early lead.  The Seawolves quickly erased that lead and took a three-point lead heading into the middle of the first half.  A Justin Dugan three tied the score at 18-18 but a Seawolves 11-4 run shut down the first half.  Plagued by turnovers (ten in the first half alone), and when CM was able to find shots, they didn't fall—the Seawolves extended the halftime lead to 43-29.

As the second half moved on, SMCC kept the lead, with the Mustangs chipping away behind Jordan Dudgeon (8-11 and 5-8 from the arc) and some Seawolves turnovers.  The Mustangs had their last shot at the six-minute mark when the lead was reduced to ten points.  However, poor decisions and a costly turnover ended that threat.

After the game Coach Gonyea stated, "At the end of the day, the better team won tonight.  They took care of the ball, made few mistakes, and hit shots.  When a team gets to this point in the season, its all about hitting shots.   We have guys who work hard, but at times do not make good decisions on the court.  If your team is hitting shots, you can hide some of the poor decisions."

He continues, "I am very proud of Corey and Malik.  This was their last hurrah and both can be proud of their career.  A player is judged by the totality of his work, not one game."

Dudgeon led CM with 23 points and 4 rebounds.  David added 11 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Mustangs finish the season a disappointing 13-12.
