AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team suffered a sweep from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 17.

Game 1: L, 1-0

The Mustangs managed to score the lone run of the game in the third inning when Brady Vincent singled on a fly ball to center field, driving in Lee Robertson. The Seawolves were unable to capitalize with timely hitting, stranding 11 total baserunners.

Both teams showed dominant pitching performances. CMCC's Garret Harvey threw a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out five batters. On the other side, sophomore Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) gave up just one run (none earned) on five hits and four strikeouts.

Game 2: L, 9-2

The Mustangs scored five runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the sixth by way of a Gage Hubbard homerun.

SMCC infielders Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine) and Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) each had an RBI in the first inning, but the Seawolves' offense was limited from there. First-year Bennett Smith (Falmouth, Maine) started on the bump and allowed six runs over four innings; Keblinsky came in for relief and allowed three runs in two innings work.

The Mustangs got another complete game pitching effort, this time from Trevor Phelps.

The results move SMCC to 18-10 overall, 4-3 in league action.

The Seawolves return home to host the Wolverines from Bridgton Academy on Thursday, Apr. 18. First-pitch from South Portland is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
