Men's Soccer Outpace Hampshire 6-4

(Augusta, ME) After starting the season with a 2-2 tie against one of the conference's top teams, the UMA men's soccer team seemed to be a bit stuck in their tracks while dealing with some key injuries. However, on Sunday, Oct. 1, the Moose were able to get back on the right path and outpace the Hampshire Black Sheep of Amherst, MA. UMA was first on the board just 9:25 into the game when #15 Cole Martin found the back of the net off a defensive deflection. Martin's first goal of the season generated an offensive spark which quickly led to a goal scored by #22 Ali Albraihi at 10:52. The Moose then took a 3-0 lead at 28:04 when #13 Javi Fernendez found #19 Ihsan Abdalnabi open on the wing for his 2nd goal of the season. Hampshire, refusing to go into the half without any push-back, scored when #23 Edwin Sedodo headed a corner from #14 Raffey Shakor at 29:46. The Moose went right back on the attack scoring first in the second half when #22 Ali Albraihi found #20 Zane Dean alone on the left wing at 53:18. However, Hampshire would answer back twice, first from #7 Rupert Tawoaj-Quashie at 62:48, and second by #23 Edwin Sedodo at 69:40. Feeling pressure, the Moose took back control when #7 Colby Oiler broke through the defense and scored from a pass and go with #11 Parker Bailey at 77:43. Hampshire, down by 2 with the clock dwindling down, shifted formation and went into an offensive attack and scored when #20 Luka Erikson kicked it through at 83:22. UMA's #15 Cole Martin would give the Moose some breathing room when he scored his second of the day at 87:32 and beating Hampshire with a final score of 6-4. Next up for the Moose is a tough YSCC matchup against the Mustangs on Wednesday, October 4, 6:30pm at CMCC.
