Mustangs Fall Short Against D-1 Bryan Stratton

Auburn, ME – A Malik Farley three at the buzzer tied the game enabling CM to play five more minutes of overtime, but the Mustangs could not hang on and dropped a 66-63 contest to USCAA division one Bryan Stratton College.  The Bobcats, ranked #2 in the nation, brought size and athleticism to Kirk Hall and showed why they were highly rated.

The contest was a back and forth affair for the first half with the Mustangs hanging onto a two-point lead at the half, 31-29.  The Bobcats regrouped at half, however; the score kept going back and forth for the next 15 minutes.  Denali Burton (15 points,11 rebounds) hit bucket after bucket to keep the game close.  Free throws in the last minute put the Bobcats up by three setting up Farley's game tying shot at the buzzer.

Overtime was much the same with each team sharing the lead.  A couple of missed shots down the stretch decided the game.

After the game Coach Gonyea was disappointed but optimistic, "I thought our kids came to play today, played hard, and played smart.  We ran a lot of sets, a lot of motion, and got the shots we wanted.  Despite the loss, we took a giant step today playing with a scholarship school and bringing them to over time.  I am really proud of our guys."

Malik Farley led CM with 16 points, and 7 rebounds.  Big DeMarco Mckissic added a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Corey David chipped in with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 9-7 for the season.
