VTC Nips CM in Overtime

Randolph, VT – The tale of two halves.  The simple version is CM beats Paul Smith and Vermont Tech at CM in the first half of the year.  Christmas and the new year pass and the Mustangs are on the road to Paul Smith and Vermont Tech in the second half.   After dropping a tight game with Paul Smith, the Mustangs looked to rebound against a struggling VTC squad.   Unlike CM teams of the past, getting to the end of the game either up by a few or down a few, the Mustangs have always had the grit to pull out a win.  Sunday, the Knights got in way.

CM held, and the squandered the lead on several occasions and with 20 turnovers, nobody in college basketball expects to win—especially when 15 of the turnovers are with your starting five….

At the end of the day, the Knights took the Mustangs to overtime with a 67-66 win.

The highlight of the day was Corey David scoring his 1000th point.

Coach Gonyea states," we are simply asking players to do things they can't, or not committed to do-- or not having the confidence to do.  It is very frustrating to at this point in the season for players to make the same mistakes over and over.  We need to take a look at our roster moving forward and make some hard decisions."

He continues, "I don't want to take anything away from VTC.  I love their coaching staff and how they operate.  Coach Hughes switched to a 1-3-1 at the end of the game and it created some problems on the court.  It took us a bit to reorganize.  They beat us and deserve the win."
