Mustangs sting Hornets in exhibition

Lyndonville, VT - The more things change, the more they stay the same. CM used their depth and pressure defense to cruise to a 102-67 win over Northern Vermont University - Lyndon in an NCAA DIII exhibition game on Tuesday. The Mustangs hit for at least 22 points in every quarter, including 27 in the first in a dominant performance.

Leading the charge was first-year, Safena Te Nana-Williams (Auckland, NZ). In just 17-minutes, she filled the stat sheet with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals while shooting 60% from the floor and 80% from the foul line. Fellow first-year, Kali Thompson (Waterville, ME) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double figures was Ja'Naia Moran (Boynton Beach, FL). She tallied 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) recorded a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with 6 points.

Overall, the 15 (of 16) Mustangs found the scoring column, and every one of them recorded a rebound. Impressively, no player recorded more than 17 minutes.

According to Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, "It was a total team effort. The energy, enthusiasm, and relentlessness was brought by everyone on the roster tonight. As our young team grows, things will become even more consistent, and we are grateful for opportunities like this."

The Mustangs open their regular season this Saturday when they host perennial USCAA powerhouse, Villa Maria College, at 6:00pm.
