SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team suffered a 5-4 loss to the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Saturday, Sept. 11.

This seesaw affair saw sophomore Keto Tchiputo (Portland, Maine) strike first for the home team inside the 10-minute mark before CCRI's Aaron Ramos provided the answer less than two minutes later. Tchiputo netted his third of the season that was again matched by the Knights on a throughball behind the SMCC defense. It was first-year David Wilson (Merrimac, Mass.) who hammered a liner that gave the SeaWolves a 3-2 advantage at the break.

The second half was spurred by a creative and relentless attack from the Knights to power a two-goal differential and the victory. The result pushes SMCC to 1-2-0 on the season; CCRI gets to 2-0 overall.

Head Coach Brian Dougher commented, "Our guys have a nose for the goal, this we proved in today's match. CCRI came with crafty play that forced overloads in our defensive third, more often on the flanks where we need better one on one and help defense. We continue to tinker with different defensive systems that hope to limit the opposition and complement our attack."

Next, the SeaWolves match up with Massasoit Community College on Monday, Sept. 13—a make-up of a postponement earlier this month. Kickoff from Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.
