BB: NHTI, Mustangs split double header

CONCORD, NH (NHTI) – The Lynx Baseball team returned to action on Saturday splitting a contest with Central Maine CC. In Game 1 NHTI picked up the win by a 7-5 final, however the Mustangs returned the favor with a 11-9 victory.

The first contest featured a remarkable pitching game from the Lynx ace Jacob Cogswell (Kington, NH). Cogswell finished the game going all seven innings giving up six hits, five runs all earned with four strikeouts and three walks. NHTI's offense was sparked in the third inning as six runs would come across the plate after Elyas Jenkins (Enfield, NH) walked with the bases loaded and then a pair of CMCC errors allowed four more Lynx to come around. The Mustangs fought hard with a late rally, but it would come up short in the end. Head Coach Tim Duval picked up collegiate coaching win number one in his career with the game one triumph.

In game two the Lynx used early hot bats to put up a four-spot in the bottom of the first. The offense came from an RBI single by Nolan Foss (Nashua, NH), a two-RBI double by Cole Johnston (Campton, NH) and a fielder's choice groundout by Jonathan Demers (Berlin, NH). An errant throw by the Mustangs catcher in the bottom of the second helped NHTI take a 5-0 lead as Patrick Browning (Merrimack, NH) stole third and advanced to the plate. In the next half inning the Mustangs answered big with knotting the game at five a piece. Bottom four and a wild pitch put the home team in front once again with Isaiah Gutierrez (Nashua, NH) coming around to score. Cogswell followed up his pitching performance with an RBI single in the fifth followed by a Justin Paradise (Hudson, NH) reaching on an error and the home squad was up three with a pair of innings to go. Again, it didn't take long for CMCC to answer getting three runs and just like that the score was tied again heading into the bottom half of the sixth. Catcher Kyle Slate (Merrimack, NH) answered the call with a clutch single scoring Johnston to put the Lynx up 9-8 heading into the seventh. In the last inning the game fell apart for NHTI as three runs crossed home giving the Mustangs the advantage for the split of the double header. Johnston picked up the loss for the Lynx going one-and-two-third innings giving up three runs all unearned with four walks and one strikeout.

The Lynx will next play on September 15th at 4:30 PM on the road versus Great Bay CC.
