Seawolves capture YSCC men's championship

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME (YSCC) – The Southern Maine Community College Seawolves are your 2021-22 Yankee Small College Conference Men's Basketball Champions.

The Seawolves beat the NHTI Lynx 78-54 at HUB Gym in South Portland Saturday afternoon.

The Seawolves used lockdown defense to shut down the high power NHTI offense.

The defense quickly turned into offense as the Seawolves jumped out to a 19-4 lead 9 minutes in. YSCC All-Conference team selection Ian Regan had an early 7pts to help with the lead.

The Seawolves defense held YSCC All-Conference team selection Saeer Miller scoreless in the first for the NHTI Lynx. The Seawolves ended the half with a 30-17 lead.

The second half was much more of the same for the Seawolves, although Scott Spann and Donovan Rodriguez were able to get the top offensive team going a bit in the Second. Rodriguez scored 11 and Spann 10 to give the Lynx a fighting chance.

In the end, the stifling Seawolves defense and significant offense from YSCC All-Conference selection Zach Mickle and Regan led them to the championship.
Mickle finished with 19, including 3-7 from 3pt land. Regan finished with a game-high 25.
