Vermont Tech women take home win

Concord, NH (VTC) - THe Vermont Technical College women's cross country team overwhelmed teams from NHTI, Rhode Island Community College, NVU and New England College take a first ever meet win on Saturday at NHTI.  Freshman Cassidy Lewis scored her first Collegiate cross country win, running the 6K course in a blistering 25:03 pace.  Following behind Lewis was freshman Maria Potvin with an equally impressive time of 25:43. Vermont Tech runners also took 5th place ( Emma Sanders ) , 6th place ( Angela Lazzaro) and 11th place ( Olivia Machado) to clinch the meet. Coach Dunkle says that the team ran really well. " The ladies are becoming a running force to be reckoned with in the division. To have 5 Women running under 30 minutes this early in the season is exciting. They work really hard and I am proud of them as people and as athletes." As far as the Conference is concerned, Dunkle had this to say"We are excited about the race today and what it could mean for conference championshps, but we are going to work hard to make conference the best we can be." 

On the men's side, Vermont Tech Men's Tyler Dunham ran a person best 8k time of 30:24 on Saturday at the NHTI pre conference meet. "His time of 30:24 takes about 40 seconds from his best time last season"  says Dunkle who notes also that "the entire Men's team ran record times today". Unfortunately, due to previous commitments 2 of the teams runners were not able to race."We did not run a full team " said Dunkle " which, although disappointing, is part of life."  When asked about the Men's chances at Conference Dunkle said that "we have some work to do between now and then. But we have 5 weeks to do it"

The Vermont Tech women's will compete be in Middlebury next weekend to run against larger colleges in the Northern New England area.
