Bio

Recognizing the link between education and personal and community economic vitality, Michael Fischer has an undeniable passion for higher education. He has a strong personal commitment to helping others succeed and has devoted his professional life to students as they work to achieve their goals. Mr. Fischer’s passion for higher education comes from his personal experiences. He was the second person in his extended family to graduate high school and the first to attend a college. His personal journey has served as the foundation for a student-centered approach and his belief that education is a great equalizer.

Michael  Fischer’s professional career includes experiences as an entrepreneur and an educator. As an entrepreneur, he started a company that served individuals experiencing various barriers to employment find their employment. As an educator, he has 20 plus years in leadership positions within higher education at both public and private colleges. Fischer served as the dean of students and adjunct instructor at Hesser College and as the director of athletics at Notre Dame College.

Prior to assuming the Presidency of York County Community College,  Mr. Fischer was at Great Bay Community College focusing his passion on transforming student lives. He held leadership roles in student affairs, college operations, enrollment management, student life, and economic and workforce development. He also led and worked on several student enrollment initiatives including the College’s addition of intercollegiate athletics.  Additionally, Fischer served as a special advisor to the president and led several fundraising campaigns.

In the community, Mr.  Fischer collaborated with business leaders to develop a student success initiative aimed at providing students with the soft-skills needed in the workforce. He also partnered with community leaders to establish several mentor programs for college students and served on several local and state boards.  On a national level, Mr. Fischer is the president of the board for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Michael Fischer holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Springfield College, Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from Purdue University Global, Doctorate of Education in Transformative Leadership from the University of New England.
