Wells Scores 1,000 Points

Randolph Center, VT – In just three years Senior Paige Wells (Orleans, VT) became part of Vermont Tech history after she scored her 3rd point against visiting team SUNY Canton on Sunday afternoon, making her the 4th member of the Women’s Basketball Team to score 1,000points.

SUNY Canton jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game lead by freshman Taylor Saltus, but Wells lead the charge for the Green Knights inching their way back into the game.

In the 14th minute Sophomore Haille Burkart (Plainsfield, VT) dribbled the ball up the court and called a play. The ball then went to Freshman Katie Thygesen (Barre, VT) who found Wells open in the corner just outside the free throw line. Wells went for the jump shot and the basket was good, scoring her 1,000 point and cutting the Roo’s lead to half.  The Green Knights would cut the lead to one with seven minutes to go but Canton took control leading 26-18 at the half.

Both Vermont Tech and SUNY Canton came out hot in the second as both teams would go basket for basket, but in the next 4 minutes the Roo’s would go on an 11-0 run to boost their lead. Vermont Tech would battle back again cutting the lead to 10 with 11 minutes to go, but it was just not enough as SUNY Canton goes on to win 62-45.

Freshman Tatiana Laroche would lead the kangaroo’s with a double-double scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds and Junior Casey Lynn Fulton added 16 points and six rebounds.

Wells ended the day with nine points and eight rebounds; she is now at 1,006 total points. Burkart added 10 points and four rebounds for the Green Knights.

Vermont Tech’s next match will be on the road at Fisher College (Fectau-Leany School, Lynn, Ma) with a tip-off at 5:00pm
