Three YSCC Players receive national honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - ThreeYankee Small College Conference athletes were recognized by the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference this week for performances in their respective sports. Allyson Lively, a middle blocker from NHTI, and Savannah Hayden, an outside hitter from the University of Maine at Machias, were each named USCAA Players of the Week for volleyball. Southern Maine Community College’s Sarah Clough was named USCAA National Soccer Player of the Week as well, giving the conference the most national players of the week for the fall.

Lively, a senior from Moultonborough, N.H. helped lead the Lynx to a YSCC tournament Championship. She served 14 consecutive points in the second set of the Championship match to win the second set 25-18. The performance earned Ally the YSCC tournament MVP and a trip to USCAA Volleyball National Championship in Canton, N.Y. 

Hayden, a junior setter from Cato, N.Y., was named setter of the week. She accumulated 94 assists for 5.22 a/s and 105 digs for 5.83 d/s.  This went along with her 21 kills for a .297 pct this week.  She ends the season leading the YSCC with 370 digs and 4.63 d/s, being receiving All YSCC Conference Award and leading her team in every category for the season. 

Clough, a freshman defender from Mount Vernon, Maine became the third different Southern Maine Community College player to receive national honors this season, joining teammates Zyrah Giustra and Kym Hendrix. Clough had two goals in the 2-0 week for the Seawolves, including the game winning goal against Unity College in the YSCC quarterfinal game.
